2nd Edition

  • 18 Los Angeles is based on 1846. All 1846 rules apply except as noted in the 18 Los Angeles rules document.
  • The Independent Railroads may be purchased by corporations for their full value. This is a change to the 1846 rules that is not documented in the 18 Los Angeles rules, but only appears on the printed game components.
  • Another major difference is that priority is determined by cash at the beginning of the stock round.
  • All the private companies that grant track lays or token placement are teleport-style. The playing corporation does not need a connection to the hex. The $60 and $100 reserved token spots are teleport-style, while the $40 reserved spots require a connection.
  • See the BoardGameGeek Rules Forum for more information.

Variants and optional rules may be selected when creating a game (with references to the rule book, if appropriate).

  • Implemented:
    • Los Angeles Title: add a private company which can lay an Open City token; 3+ players (rules p3)
    • Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe: add a private company that allows placement of a station token in a full city; 3+ players (rules p3)
  • the 2nd Edition is currently listed as a separate game; when it is production-ready, it will be the default way to play 18 Los Angeles on 18xx.games, and the 1st Edition will only be available as a checkbox option
  • see the 2nd Edition rulebook (linked under "General Information") and/or this BGG thread for info on what has changed
