A modern, complete developer environment can boot with less than 600MB in 2020.
Note: I cheated for a better screenshot by using xterm instead of alacritty.
Docker accounts for ~160MB with dockerd and docker-containerd. Disabling docker can lead to an even less resource-heavy environment.
Note: the disk was running out of space, so the hard drive indicator automatically becomes visible (hidden by default).
