Closes eXist-db/eXide#224. Test: Save https://github.com/line-o/exist/blob/0f3009183d89589f82d06bc72527fce3f024a3f5/exist-core/src/test/xquery/maps/maps.xql and run in eXide. Before this PR, this operation would silently fail. After the PR, the test completes as expected.
