Motomapia
Do you use a GPS? Want to download thousands of Points Of Interest surrounding that trip into the desert you're planning for next weekend?
I had this problem. There are millions of interesting features in the crowd-sourced website Wikimapia, but I can only view them when I have cellular service. This doesn't help in the places I prefer to ride.
Thus was born a weekend project, Motomapia. It's a mashup of Google Maps and Wikimapia, plus the ability to download large sections as a POI file that you can load into you GPS. It's entirely open source, built with CoffeeScript and Java on Google App Engine.
