@emilyriederer I did my best to write down something. I did that very fast: my apologies for this low quality document (sorry for the english 馃檹 ). I hope it can help you if you decide to work on chirunconf/chirunconf19#4 during the unconf.

@yihui I had no idea where to put such a guide. I am not sure I've chosen the best place. I let you decide.

Thank you so much, @RLesur -- this is incredible!! You've made me even more excited to dig in, understand how the existing templates work better, and hopefully come up with something worth contributing back 馃槃 I really appreciate your spotting our unconf issue and getting this up so fast!

I would suggest including contributing guidelines and the how-to into the CONTRIBUTING.md file. This file is "known" by GitHub and used in other projects. Maybe, we can add general information in the CONTRIBUTING.md and reference the doc created by @RLesur
