A release of the associations platform based off the current (2014-02) master branch.

The v1.x maintenance branch is now very old (it split in 2011 from the CLG and coop development work happening on master). Our original intention was to make a 2.0 release that was based off the master branch, containing the current associations feature set plus a finished version of the CLG feature set. However, the CLG work is still some way off completion, and maintaining a v1.x branch that is substantially different from the master branch is making extra work. So it would be good to make a 1.x release that is based off the master branch, with no extra features for associations, and containing the unfinished CLG/coop work hidden under the hood.
