Tornado on Heroku

Heroku is a great system for launching applications. Tornado is a great app framework. They play nicely together!

Getting started

This app should give you the basics to get a super-simple app up and running on Heroku. You can do all that just by downloading your own copy:

curl -L 'https://github.com/mikedory/Tornado-Heroku-Quickstart/tarball/master' | tar zx && cd mikedory-Tornado-Heroku-Quickstart-*

Then, run the setup script:

./init.sh

That's it! You're good to go!

Options

This script assumes you might want to use virtualenv to manage Python version and dependencies (and you do, don't you?), but if that's not your particular cup of tea, pick the second option and the script will move right along.

Additionally, if you don't want to immediately start a Tornado app, that's fine too! Just choose option #2 when prompted, and it'll skip that part.

If you decide later on that you want to use Heroku, you can do so via the provided script:

./heroku.sh

You can also modify the script, or just delete the file entirely if you won't be needing it.

About

This app was assembled by Mike Dory, with some great updates by tedb0t and gregory80.

There's plenty more to read at the Heroku dev center, especially around their Python support, options for background tasks, and way more.

Contributions to this project are welcome, so shoot over a pull request if you've got ideas on how to make it better. Fork away!

About

A lil' bootstrap app to create a Tornado project, ready to deploy to Heroku!
