qtile has a built-in widget to display messages provided by libnotify in it's statusbar. After adding this widget to your config and starting yubikey-touch-detector with --libnotify flag, it should work out of the box.
Warning: you need to have qtile's version which includes this commit - it wasn't in the official release at the time this page was created. All releases newer than 0.22.1 should include this fix.
