The Data Stewardship Wizard (DSW), is an awareness tool in the area of research data management (RDM) which helps researchers and data stewards with writing data management plans (DMP) for FAIR Open science. In this practical, you will prepare a data management plan for your postdoc project, you'll do so via filling questionnaire using the DSW. The questionnaire will guide you through key requirements in RDM making you think if and how to meet those requirements in your project.
Before starting the practical, make sure you have the following ready, if not, please notify your session instructor.
- The URL link for DSW training instance.
- The example scenario for our workshop.
- Go to the DSW training instance and click
Sign up
.
In the DSW tool, Knowledge Models act as source databases that hold requirements in one or more sub-area of RDM.
The tool comes pre-packed with a comprehensive default knowledge model. In this practical we will use a cut-down version of this model. To create and fill in a questionnaire:

Create Project
on top right to create a project: - Provide a name for your project, try to use a name that can distinguish your record from other trainees, for example include your username in the project name. In addition, you may share your project with others. You may allow either DSW tool users or anyone with a link to view/edit your answers. Clicking
Save
will create your project. Each project is a questionnaire that represents an instantiation of the knowledge model.
.
- Go to your newly created empty project/questionnaire.
- To create a preview report from your questionnaire, click on the
Settings
on the top navigation menu, select the required template (FNR Template) and theHTML
default format. Then click onPreview
