ember-electron-update-demo

Important: These instructions are currently out of date. Please check back after ember-electron v2.0 is released.

Introduction

This application is intended to provide a minimalistic example of one way to provide seamless software updates to an electron application based on ember-electron by using free git hosting from GitHub (containing update content) and free application hosting from Heroku (running nuts server to facilitate updates).

At the time of writing ember-electron was transitioning from version 1.x to 2.x, and it was necessary to use npm link per these instructions to make things work. This caused me much grief, so you may want to wait for 2.0 to be released before playing with this.

From scratch

# (Note: it's normally not this complicated -- just due to pending PRs right now)
git clone git+ssh://[email protected]/isleofcode/electron-forge
cd electron-forge
git checkout feat/make-platforms
npm install
npm link
cd ..

git clone git+ssh://[email protected]/felixrieseberg/ember-electron
cd ember-electron
npm link electron-forge
npm install
npm link
cd ..

# (This is normally where one would start)

ember new demo-app
cd demo-app
# (Normally the following would just be `ember install ember-electron`)
npm install --save-dev ember-electron@file:///abs/path/to/ember-electron
npm link ember-electron
ember g ember-electron
npm link electron-forge

# TODO: edit config & files
npm install
ember electron # To run
ember electron:package; ember electron:make # To package
