Preliminary User Stories. This will have additional stories added to it at next listening session.

Donor

  • MANUFACTURER: Our bakery chain sometimes over produces. We need an outlet when that happens.
  • RETAIL MARKET: We have to unload these groceries that expire in two days to make room for new shipments.
  • RAW MATERIALS: At the end of our farmer's market, we have a lot of produce that we cannot truck back to our farm.
  • CATERING: After our film shooting, we have loads of food that we don't want to keep throwing away.
  • MONETARY: We are always looking to make large monetary donations to worthy causes.
  • TRANSPORTATION: Our company van just sits in the parking lot all day. We should put it to good use.
  • CATERING: As a startup, we provide food for our employees and also have loads of leftovers at the end of the day.
  • RAW MATERIALS: Half of the carrots we grow are ugly and we don't know what to do with them.
  • INDIVIDUAL: I have extra meals on my meal plan that I don't use.
  • Co-op DISTRIBUTOR: Our food distribution company tosses out a lot of food.
  • RESTAURANT: I want to give away our extra pasta dishes at the end of the night but the containers are too expensive.
  • RESTAURANT: My manager makes me throw away the extra food we have even though it's edible.
  • RESTAURANT: I own a restaurant and we over-produce meals even though we plan.
  • INDIVIDUAL: How do I give money to this food organization?
  • INDIVIDUAL: How do I give a food bank food?

Recipient

  • END USER: I don't have money for diapers and stuff from the pharmacy.
  • END USER: I'd like to go to the food bank but they are only open 2 hours a day right during the time I work.
  • END USER: I haven't a real meal in a long time and don't have access to a kitchen.
  • END USER: I haven't eaten in 2 days and the closest grocery store to my home is 10mi away.
  • END USER: Where do I go to get fresh produce with CalFresh?
  • END USER: When I get to school I haven't eaten breakfast and my mom and dad couldn't give me a lunch.
  • END USER: I'm a college student with a very low food budget.
  • END USER: My paycheck ran out and I need food now.

Connector

  • VOLUNTEER: I am a food advocate. How can I help?
  • FOOD RESCUE ORG: Our company has loads of produce to give away for free.
  • VOLUNTEER: I have time during the day to glean food from our local community garden.
  • POLICY: As an elected official, I'm concerned about the CO2 gases that food waste is contributing to our landfills.
  • VOLUNTEER: On Saturdays, my family and I spend our day volunteering as food runners.
  • VOLUNTEER: I want to help rescue food.
  • RESCUE ORG: Our company brings food to those who need it.
  • VOLUNTEER: I want to volunteer to drive food to a food bank.

Outlet

  • FOOD PANTRY: Nobody knows that donating food to us is not useful. It would be better to receive funds so we can buy the food we know our recipients need.
  • SOUP KITCHEN: Our church serves a free breakfast every morning.
  • FOOD PANTRY: We receive food-stable donations but we'd like to get refrigeration somehow.
  • FOOD PANTRY: We need help understanding food safety procedures.
  • SHELTER: Our homeless shelter feeds 300 people a night. We're constantly looking for free food.
  • SOUP KITCHEN: The line of people is always really long at our soup kitchen.
  • Our government grant could feed 300 people a day.
  • We'd love to have a computer at our food pantry to do basic financial and budget training.
  • SOUP KITCHEN: Our senior citizens center doesn't receive enough produce on a daily basis.
  • COMMUNITY: Our daycare center is running on a shoestring. We always look for food donations.
  • We'd like to open a food pantry but the regulations are extremely difficult to navigate.
  • We'd like to expand our hours we're open because most of the people we serve have 2 jobs.

Post Consumer

  • MANUFACTURING: Using anaerobic digestion and hydrothermal liquefaction, we can convert oil and food scraps into energy or fuel on an industrial scale.
  • RAW MATERIALS: The food scraps we feed our pigs come every day from the food processing plant down the road.
  • GARDENER: This compost we got from the city's recycling center is made from food scraps.
