I know that in safari original letter spacing looks good but in firefox it is quite ugly ;)

Could you make your fix Firefox specific, since everything looks ok in Webkit-based browsers?

You could just add a line with the -moz-binding: before the letter-spacing attribute. You don't have to delete the original one, as this problem happens only in firefox.
