Bugs in original game
There are some known bugs in the original game:
- Skipping the intro cutscene by pressing enter will prevent a boost-start from working, as the game considers it an early start. The issue does not happen when skipping the cutscene with Space or Esc
- Audio streaming thread and main thread access the same data, but are not synchronized (Fixed in GOG.com 1.0)
- The original game only supports up to 64 display modes, anything after that is ignored; that is not enough for modern systems (patched in GOG.com 1.0 hotfix2).
- Limited set of supported display modes (there's a filter, in addition to limiting to 64 supported modes) at only 1 (?) aspect ratio.
- Level of detail for models reduces too quickly for high resolutions.
- The engine exhaust fire is not visible for AI pods.
- The magbeam of the AI is black.
- The magbeam of the AI is not animated.
- AI pods are not animated / the flaps don't move.
- When snow particles move, there is a motion-blur effect by connecting those 2 points with polygons. However, this also happens when the camera does a jumpcut, so there's lots of garbage lines for 1 frame
- The game files are stored with up to 8 bits per channel. However, all textures seem to be converted to A4R4G4B4 or A1R5G5B5 during loading (which reduces the visual quality)
- Right clicking a main menu item will leave that menu, when re-entering the menu, the menus hover effect is missing until it's clicked again
- Hitting enter on selected menu item always goes forward, even if "Cancel" is selected
- When one engine exploded, the other one is shown inside out (bad culling)
- Sometimes re-spawns you directly infront of an obstacle you can't pass because you can't even accelerate enough
- "Lens flares" and "Smoke and dust" will silently be disabled if they are not supported on the system, no warning/error is emitted
- Best times are not saved on fast PCs (Maybe fixed in 1.1?)
- Various issues at high framerates
- Ben Quadinaros' pod sometimes clips into the ground during gameplay
- Texture filter which (probably) should only invert color (and preserve alpha) always sets alpha to 0xF (100%)
- If your pod got damaged on the last race you can’t repair your parts for the rest of the game.

When the Multiplayer Podracer Select Bug (MPSB) triggers, the player experiencing it can still go to the podracer select screen at the multiplayer lobby, but it locks on Anakin Skywalker only. This forces the player to choose between staying with the podracer they currently had in the previous race by escaping the select screen, picking Anakin and forever being stuck with him, or completely restarting the whole game to clear the bug.
The MPSB cannot be triggered in a multiplayer game with just one person in the lobby, making it much harder to test. When you do have two or more players however it can still affect anyone in the multiplayer session, including the host of the lobby. The MPSB can affect just 1 player or multiple players depending on if they do the pre-requisite actions to trigger it as I will mention next. The MPSB occurs if at any point after TWO (2) races are completed, a player goes to the podracer select screen (in the lobby setting up for THEIR third multiplayer race of that current .exe game session) and then simply LOOKING left or right at any other racer besides the one they were just raced with, and then completing a third race will trigger the bug. If a player simply goes into the racer select screen to look at their current racer from the 2nd race but DOESN'T look at other racers, that will not trigger the bug.
It could be even nastier to figure out with lobbies of 3 or more people as there are a lot more variables to consider.
