The Flickity CSS doesn't appear to be pulled in by the add on. Is that intended?

I'm quite sure that it is. Or at least / some of it is. Otherwise, where would these button styles come from - and how would the slides work? There is a problem somewhere along the chain though - that is allowing the flickity-viewport to collapse.
