Describe the bug
I know it doesn't officially support 16.04 but it was my last and only hope. I installed it on Ubuntu 16.04 with kernel 4.15.0.43 because I cannot switch from my dGPU (1070Maxq) to the iGPU (630). Switching from console leads to a black screen with a frozen system. I rebooted in the recovery mode, accessing to a superuser console. From there, I did
prime-select intel
, I removed all thenvidia
modules from the kernel, I loadedbbswitch
and echoedOFF
. I alsoupdate-initramfs
and reboot. Magically, I had the screen visible and the system running, but I was plug in the current. When I removed the cable in order to check powertop, the system froze. If I reboot without being plugged in, the system freezes at the login screen. I tried to revert tonvidia
using the modified prime-select but I got an error saying that xorg was missing. Luckily it did work using the classic one, located at /usr/bin/.There is really no way I can turn off the dGPU and use the iGPU for lightweight stuff. It's already three weeks I got this new laptop and I cannot switch the GPUs. It's a shame because I have a 90W battery but it runs out in only 2 hours due the 1070 always running.
