There should be more formats/modes for the discord_typing bar item.

  • Coloring a square with the user's color (perhaps blinking)
  • Format string (somehow)

Also, is an online indicator planned? You could have a colored square when online, not colored when offline, a moon when idle, a ⛔ in do not disturb, blinking for typing.

An online indicator is planned (it has been partially implemented somewhere, some option, or stash somewhere), but there is the issue of how Discord sends presence updates, with the current nicklist implementation, it isn't possible to determine which buffers contain a member that was updated.
I am working on a new nicklist implementation that should fix that.

Also, in another issue I mentioned the number of people typing. Perhaps you could have a number of people online/idle/whatnot:

🟢 5 | 🌜 2 | ⛔ 6 | ⬜ 18

That would make a good bar item.
