The branch develop master has not seen updates in 2 years.
Its "Layers list" page was last updated... in 2016!

Shouldn't those be enough reasons to ditch the outdated https://spacemacs.org website with the contents of https://develop.spacemacs.org?
(A redirection from d.s.o to s.o could avoid broken links.)

The download link there points to https://github.com/syl20bnr/spacemacs/archive/master.zip although master branch is unmaintained. That combined with stale Releases on github is highly confusing.

@syl20bnr @TheBB @JAremko can you please respond?

I am doing my best but it's really difficult to continue maintaining Spacemacs without the ability to fix website issues or add new maintainers, hell I am even unable to create local projects in Spacemacs to coordinate contributing efforts towards a mutual goal.

I love this project and will definitely continue maintaining it but I have a lot of stuff going on in my private life which sometimes forces me to stop working on Spacemacs for several months. In this period this project is unmaintained, which is a state an open source project this size should really not have.

Please consider either coming back to the project or sharing some of your rights to allow the existing maintainers to move on.

Unfortunately only @syl20bnr can modify https://spacemacs.org/
I merge stuff on develop once in a while, that's all https://github.com/syl20bnr/develop.spacemacs.org/pulls?q=is%3Apr+is%3Aclosed

Good to look at it this week-end. Thanks for pinging me.

Thank you @syl20bnr! Besides the website, I think it would be great to address the maintenance issues raised above by @smile13241324. Would you by any chance consider appointing additional collaborators, or transferring the repository to an organization as suggested in #16671? (The latter option would allow more flexible control over permissions.)

IIRC @bcc32 recently offered to help with the maintenance. I would also volunteer myself, in case more help is welcome and the other maintainers agree.

I archived spacemacs.org and now develop.spacemacs.org is published at https://www.spacemacs.org

I am surprised that @smile13241324 you are not in the collaborators of this repository. Sorry for this, in my head you were a collaborator.

I am removing the old maintainers and sending requests for @smile13241324, @fnussbaum and @bcc32

@JAremko I think you don't need to do anything after the above changes but if you want us to sync to maybe rename the develop.spacemacs.org repo, let me know.

Next in my queue is taking care of the Matrix moderation issue and rejoin the channel (I won't be very active but I will be more available. Well that won't be very hard... 😅 )

@smile13241324 oops, you were already collaborator of Spacemacs, my sanity is correct 😄 I sent you a request for the website repo.

Great news, thank you!

Unfortunately, I think there are bunch of links hanging about that point to develop.spacemacs.org (like, for example, the "Documentation" link at the top of the README file). Also, unfortunately it seems like Google's search index also still has search results pointing at develop.spacemacs.org (for example, when I google "spacemacs modeline", I get a bunch of links pointing to develop.spacemacs.org).

Is it sensible to make an effort to clean these up? Can develop.spacemacs.org get set to redirect to where the new stuff is?

I fixed the broken links in this repository, thanks for bringing this up. Of course, a redirect would still be worthwhile to make all sorts of other links on the web or in bookmarks etc. work again.

@syl20bnr
Thanks for taking care of the website domain change!

BTW: I just noticed that develop.spacemacs.org has been hacked.

Shit I should have time to look into this in the weekend

I guess setting up a redirect with the DNS provider from develop.spacemacs.org to spacemacs.org might solve this problem (and would be desirable anyway, as noted above).
