Hello 👋, I'm David, a web developer based in Sweden. I'm the creator and maintainer of the Embla Carousel project - A lightweight carousel library with fluid motion and great swipe precision. Its API is designed with flexibility and extensibility in mind and also provides a plugin system. Embla Carousel is library agnostic, dependency free and 100% open source.

✨ Why?

I am a strong advocate for free and open-source projects. While many of us appreciate receiving something for free, it is important to recognise the value of supporting those who contribute to our success financially. When we benefit from the work of others while being compensated for it, it is only fair to consider providing financial support to those in our "supply chain".

Relying on a small number of individuals to do a large amount of work for minimal or no compensation, is not sustainable nor scalable for free and open-source projects. From a business standpoint, depending on suppliers who may burn out or disappear suddenly is risky and detrimental to the longevity of your organisation.

Proprietary software comes with a high price tag, limited customisation options, and the potential for being tied to one vendor, could pose a risk if the company goes under and takes their software with them. With 90% of technology startups failing within the first three years, the drawbacks of using proprietary software - such as cost, lack of flexibility, and potential for obsolescence - make it a less favourable option for ensuring the long-term success and stability of your company. On the other hand, free and open-source solutions provide a more attractive alternative.
