Doesn't seem to be working on IOS Monterey. I'm receiving an error:

Which version did you install? v1.4.5?

I didn't get that error. However, it seems to me that Safari ignores the host file even with the new Private Relay options turned off. Edge, Chrome and Firefox work as expected.

I think I installed an older version (New Mac). Removed and installed 1.4.5. Seems to be working now. It works for me in Safari. Thanks.

I am also having difficulty in Monterey, but slightly different. The prefpane will load properly, but when I click the lock to make changes I get the beachball, no password prompt opens. Then if I return to the main screen of System Preferences and try to open the Hosts prefpane again, I get the same error message as VSHoward. In the app it exhibits similar behaviour, where it will launch the app properly but will crash when attempting to unlock the app.

EDIT: I am running 1.4.5, never had any previous versions installed.
EDIT 2: If I reboot the machine, the first time I attempt to unlock the pane I get the password prompt (it claims to be legacyLoader-x86-64 (System Preferences)). I use Touch ID to unlock the pane but it doesn't unlock, and further attempts to unlock do not bring up the password prompt.

Well it will be a while until I am brave enough to upgrade to Monterey so hang on! I think the legacyLoader-x86-64 means you need rosetta 2, because the prefpane is not compiled yet on a m1 Mac. Also note that the first time you try to load hosts.prefpane, it will ask for your PASSWORD TWICE!!! This is because it needs to register with the authentication framework and ask for permission to edit your hosts file as root. The second time it will just ask for your password to edit.

I compiled it on 12.3.1 M1 and the pref pane crashes when clicking on the lock with the error from this issue.

@pixelkaiser Does the precompiled version work?

@pixelkaiser It works on my Macs, M1 and Intel. :)

I will look into it.
