Europe is splitting the internet into three -- Does this affect Solid? #254
Comments
Can a Solid server be regarded as a platform in terms of the new EU legislation? The whole idea of Solid is that that would not be the case, or would it? The Pod should be the platform, I think, legally speaking. The person or entity that owns the pod should be responsible for its content, just like you would be responsible for your own publications on your own self hosted http server. As far as I understood from a podcast discussing the matter, article 17 explicitly forbids upload filters. However, I haven’t read the entire regulation yet. One of the main ideas is at least to allow technological development. |
I came across this article thanks to a share from @karlitschek (of nextcloud), a project with similar values to solid, and I was wondering if there will be implications to solid in terms of this new EU regulation.

The main question is whether we are going to have to create europe specific code for servers and apps.
Must say that I dont know as much as Id like on this topic, so it would be really good to compare notes with other people and projects.
