I think we should look at reviewing the ISSUE_TEMPLATE & PULL_REQUEST_TEMPLATE to see if it is still relevant/adequate for supporting changes within this codebase. Raising this as a placeholder for doing that work and starting a discussion.

I would like to achieve some consistency with the standards used when developing & managing change within the Sensu Plugins as @majormoses and co have made good progress here so lets reap the benefits of this.

Ya I think we definitely can reap some of the benefits. One thing that certainly comes to mind is to link to the community repos docs for contributing, changelog, etc. Let's make it easier to set expectations on contributions.
