First of all, thank you for maintaining this repo! I've found the project really helpful, making the remarkable even more remarkable!

I am interested in learning more about the reach and community engagement with this project, and I was wondering if you could kindly share some traffic insights, such as the number of views and clones. These stats would help me get a better understanding of the project's visibility and the interest it has gained within the RM community.

Not only did you open an issue asking for this, but you sent me a LinkedIn connection request also asking for this information? I see you've also opened similar requests on a supernote related repository.

You are also not explaining the driver for why you want to understand the "visibility" of the project.

Sorry if I came across suspicious.
I am interested in making a my own project within the eink field, being able to gauge engagement with tools such as yours can help me learn if my idea is worth pursuing.
I hope that makes sense, if you could share the traffic with me out of good faith that would be amazing. If you are't willing I understand.. let me know what I could do for you to be comfortable.

So what I'm hearing here is that you are either trying to make a product, and want us to share market information with you to see if it would have enough of a market to be profitable. OR you are trying to start a personal project based on if it will get users, instead of just because you are interested in making it.

I would recommend to the repository owners against sharing the information for both scenarios.

Hey again,
I am a University student so forgive me if I haven't been too clear (and if I am incorrectly using GitHub issues). I have a coursework aimed at exposing us to attempting to develop a real world piece of software, I think using some insights, such as what you described to be market data, could prove really useful in my write up of the project at the end. It's not officially requested in the module, but as you can imagine to get the best marks I wanna go the extra mile.
Once again, I'm grateful for your fast responses here and do let me know if we should take this conversation off issues :)

This issue is still the appropriate place for this conversation.

The further clarification that you are doing this for your university classes does reduce my concern. My recommendation to the repository owners would now be, that if you do share analytics information, you do it publicly here.

just to voice another opinion: while I agree the request is a bit odd, it's pretty innocent and reasonable to ask.The info might as well be public if provided, but no reason to be so suspicious.

IRK, some quick thoughts: good luck on your project. I think there's enough of a market to write some software for. It's probably not a huge market, but for a uni project that's probably fine. When I was in college I wrote some software for a similar small community and found it really useful to pursue. If you think you can wrangle the technical skills to make your project happen, I suspect there are enough folks to play with it.

(edit: this is a bit tangential, after rereading Eeems' comment) You could see GitHub issues as a place only for Super Serious Technical Things, but there can also be some aspect of a social network here. (you could then say that such should only belong in the designated Super Specific "Discussions" part of GitHub, but idk why you'd be so strict)

edit 2: just a point of info, it's def odd to ask folks to contact you externally. just pay attention to responses here instead :)

Thank you both! I've already learned so much thanks to your detailed replies - open source communities are one of a kind.
The note about if the info is shared, it helps shared public makes total sense, I naively thought you would prefer to share it privately.
I'll be patiently waiting for your decision on whether or not to share the repository's traffic. 😆
