Description

Feature Request: Seamless File Addition to Notion Databases and Pages from Raycast

Introduction

As a power user of Notion and Raycast, I'm excited to submit a feature request that can significantly enhance the productivity and workflow of users like myself. This proposal aims to integrate a file addition feature within the Raycast Notion extension, allowing users to upload files directly to their Notion databases and pages without leaving the Raycast interface.

Problem Statement

Currently, when users need to add files to their Notion databases or pages, they must navigate to the respective page or database, click on the "Add File" button, and then select the desired file from their system. This process can be time-consuming, especially when dealing with multiple files or frequent uploads. Moreover, it disrupts the user's workflow, requiring them to switch between Raycast and the Notion web/desktop application.

Proposed Feature

To address this issue, I propose adding a feature to the Raycast Notion extension that enables users to add files directly from Raycast to their Notion databases and pages. This feature would allow users to:

  1. Select files from their system: Users can choose one or multiple files from their local machine to upload to Notion.
  2. Specify the destination: Users can select the desired Notion database or page where they want to add the files.
  3. Upload files: Raycast will handle the file upload process, ensuring that the files are added to the specified Notion database or page.

Benefits

The proposed feature would provide several benefits to users, including:

  • Improved productivity: By reducing the number of steps required to add files to Notion, users can save time and focus on more critical tasks.
  • Enhanced workflow: The feature would enable users to stay within the Raycast interface, minimizing the need to switch between applications and disrupting their workflow.
  • Increased efficiency: Users can upload multiple files at once, making it easier to manage and organize their Notion databases and pages.

Conclusion

The addition of a file upload feature to the Raycast Notion extension would significantly enhance the user experience, providing a more efficient and streamlined way to manage files within Notion. I believe this feature would be a valuable addition to the extension, and I look forward to the opportunity to discuss this proposal further.

Who will benefit from this feature?

Enhancing Productivity for Users

For individuals seeking to optimize their workflow, our feature offers a significant advantage. Rather than navigating to a database or webpage to upload files, this functionality enables users to add files efficiently, streamlining their process and reducing the time spent on repetitive tasks. By leveraging this feature, users can enhance their productivity and focus on higher-priority tasks.

Example Use Case
A user is working on a project within Raycast and needs to add several files to their Notion database. With the proposed feature, they can select the files from their system, specify the destination database or page, and upload the files directly from Raycast. This process would streamline their workflow, saving time and reducing the complexity of managing files across multiple applications.

I think this use case might be a bit niece for an additional command. There's probably a way to add this functionality to an existing command, maybe as an action on the 'Search Notion' or 'Add Text to Page' command.

Hey @bkeys818, I wanted to work on this issue, as I have a lot of file sharing being done by me personally. If you can provide any details regarding how you wish to proceed with it, I would like to work on this feature.

Is the goal to be able to add files to a page's content (as a block) or to a page property?

I think primary objective is to add a file to a page as a block, then we can think of adding it a Database.
