So, sometimes the feed dies. Don't know why, and very hard to diagnose or detect, because it's inside the flash players...

Given that the iPhone version of most video sites (AFAIK) returns a RTSP stream, looking into an RTSP proxy (e.g. http://www.live555.com/proxyServer/) or maybe just a direct stream, plus something like https://github.com/AxisCommunications/locomote-video-player might actually work better.
