Hi,

What is the best way to find all the commits made by a specific user made across every repository in a organization in specific datetime range(For example: in last 30 days) ?

1. Is it possible using GraphQL
2. or is there any other better approach

You can definitely do this with GitHub's GraphQL API. You need to fetch all commits made by a specific user in an organization within a specific datetime range. Of course, you should have the access to the repository you are interested in. 😄

Query for the main branch should look something like this:

Switch the values with the ones you are interested in. Also, your personal access token needs to have the right permissions, bare that in mind.

I tried above mentioned query like below:

I changed ref(qualifiedName: "main") to defaultBranchRef so that i should get commits from default branch of the repo but getting below node in the response.

Could you please suggest what wrong i am doing here ?

And second, in my organization i have access to around 200 repos but i usually contribute in 4-5 repos only. Yours provided GraphQL query will provide my contribution in each and every repo of the organization even though i am not contributing anything in most of the repos. Do we have any other best alternate option to get the commits or this is the only performant way to get the data ?

The error message from above indicates that the provided USER_ID does not correspond to any existing node in the GitHub's database. You should replace USER_ID and ORGANIZATION_NAME with the actual values in order to get a successful response. Refer to the documentation for more insights about this, that should clarify many things for you. ☺️
