I continue to get a pop-up message in my codespace: "remote repository contains conflicting changes". There is a button to press: "Force Push" but this button doesn't seem to do anything and the messages continue. I have read in a GitHub discussion group that the following terminal commands might work:
git pull origin main
git add .
git commit -m “your message here”
git push origin main
But since the codespace is owned by CS50, I can't enter these commands in the terminal. Can anyone help? Thanks very much...

Hi james, Open the repository in the Codespace.
In the repository's Git panel, switch to the branch you want to push your changes to (e.g., main).
Pull the latest changes from the remote repository to ensure you have the most up-to-date code.
Resolve any conflicts that arise during the pull process. Conflicts occur when Git finds conflicting changes between the remote repository and your local changes.
Once the conflicts are resolved, add and commit your changes.
Finally, attempt to push your changes to the remote repository.
If the "Force Push" button in the pop-up message doesn't seem to work, it's best to avoid using it. Force pushing can overwrite changes in the remote repository and lead to data loss.

Thanks for your assistance. How do I "Open the repository in the Codespace." If I go to the codespace, which is where all of my files and code are, I don't see a repository to open. How do I do that?? In fact I thought the codespace was a repository. How do I find the repository's Git panel? Where is that located? I can't seem to find that. Right now, I'm at what I believe to be the dashboard and there is a window with all of the directories I've created. This list of directories doe not equal the directories that are in my codespace (which I'm told is the "remote repository"). I don't see anything that looks like a "Git panel." What is that and where is that located? I see 2 tabs above the directories window- one tab says 'main' and the tab next to it says '1 branch'. When I click on the tab that says 'main', I get a drop down with a field asking me to enter the name of a branch to find it or create a new branch. So now what? I don't have any branches that i know of. Your instructions say to "pull" the latest changes from the remote repository. So I guess that's the codespace, right? How do I pull changes from that codespace? Thanks again for your help. Still dead in the water...

Hi everyone,

I've encountered the same "remote repository contains conflicting changes" message in VS Code, especially after making my GitHub account email private. Here's what worked for me:

If your GitHub email is private:

Go to your GitHub account settings.
Navigate to the "Email" section.
Make sure the email address associated with your account is public.
This resolved the conflict for GitDoc, which seemed to be interfering with automatic Git pushes due to the private email.
