Support plantuml ?

Today I see Mermaid will be supported in the future Mermaid diagrams can be displayed within Markdown #372

So will GitHub have plan to support plantuml ?

Hi @haunt98. Thanks for asking this. PlantUML is definitely on our list of candidates to support, but it hasn't been scheduled yet. We will post an update here after more investigation and planning. If there are reasons that you prefer PlantUML or if there are scenarios that PlantUML uniquely supports, we'd love to hear about them. Thanks for your help.

I also think PlantUML has a wider feature set than mermaid (but I admit I did not check mermaid recently) so I'd also be very interested in getting PlantUML support in GitHub.
For the time being, I put my PlantUML diagrams as comments in my markdown files and integrate images.
But, having a direct support of PlantUML would be great.

PlantUML is 5 years older than Mermaid, and I have a backlog of diagrams to convert, I would prefer to keep them consistent, as PlantUML is supported by other tools. Thanks.

I'd vote for PlantUML. As it's older, its use is wide and has become the pattern in some companies. And there's just no comparisson between what PlantUML already has and Mermaid plans to be, even though both support C4 style diagrams.

Mermaid is lacking basic stuff like deployment and component diagrams.

As others have mentioned, PlantUML has much richer diagramming constructs then mermaid, mermaid DSL is limiting between different formats of diagrams. I hope just like GitLab.com, Github.com will support PlantUML rendering sooner, rather than later.

I would love to see PlantUML support in addition to Mermaid. We see benefits in both support of diagram types but also extensions through includes being better than mermaid.

Mermaid is not anything like as fully featured as plantuml for serious software documentation. Please, please, please, github just flip the switch and support this.
