Sounds like an omission in the documentation, transferring the ticket to there. An intermediate is just a CA which has another (self-signed) CA is issuer.

By following documentation https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/self-signed-chain.html for creating a self-signed certificate. It reads that there should be a option for creating an intermediate ca. This option is missing in 24.7.7.
