I'll share here some useful tools I've been using to work with OF / c++
Share yours too.

time

you can benchmark compile times or anything by prepending time in a bash command. ex:

time make -j 8
make -j 8  18.44s user 1.36s system 450% cpu 4.394 total

file

Useful to know which architectures are built some specific dylibs, example

file libLeap.dylib 
libLeap.dylib: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures: [x86_64:Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64
- Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64] [i386]
libLeap.dylib (for architecture x86_64):	Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64

include what you use

it is a compiler that lists how you can decrease your includes to essential. it is a fork
you can install via brew in macOS
brew install iwyu
and use inside config.make files per project like this

PROJECT_CXX = include-what-you-use
PROJECT_CC = include-what-you-use
