editing column titles causes deletion of data

I was trying to edit the column titles for data in my sfusd data and the full column of data seemed to disappear instead

hey max,
i was trying to rename both "Total First-Round Requests 2010" and
"First Place Requests 2010"
sometimes I would get a server error [along with a 3 or 4 letter code
with an X in it?)
other times it would look like the change went through, but it would
later disappear the whole column [I clicked over to the mapping app,
and the data weren't there, clicked back and the columns were gone]
