Feedback on Mathesar v0.2.0-testing.1

Mathesar 0.2.0-testing.1 offers an early preview of improvements we plan to release in our beta version, including dramatically improved UI responsiveness and a new access control system based on Postgres permissions. This is the first step towards launching the Mathesar beta.

We need to hear from as many users as possible about how this new version of Mathesar is working for you. Please try out the build and share your feedback. See our installation instructions for Docker Compose and from scratch.

Please note that we do not recommend this build for production use. Most features should work, but there are some known issues. You'll also need to perform a fresh install of Mathesar, upgrades from previous Mathesar releases are not currently supported.

We welcome all feedback, especially on:

• UI speed and responsiveness
• Functionality of the new permissions system
• Concerns with using Mathesar in production
• Critical missing features for your use case (details appreciated!)

Great improvements in UI, there definitely are many thoughtful details. Thank your for the good work.

• Just exploring and without reading any docs, it is not immediately clear to me how to create one-to-many or many-to-many relationships when creating a table from a column as a linked table (even though it seems multiple Pick buttons on the left would allow it UI-side (e.g. via Ctrl-click).

• The dialog for creating linked tables is very clear; the text for many-to-many seems incomplete, e.g. "Multiple Books records can link to each other through a new"

• I had also the expectation that clicking on a linked record, the foreign table would appear centered on the relevant record. I think this is compatible with offering the top search ribbon for search.

• I am interested in representing locations -- I imagine support for geometric column types might be further down the road.

• A proper Markdown editor with support for math formulas might not be important for others, but would make a great difference to me. I like Lute which can be tried in Siyuan note

• Still figuring out how a local-first experience can be best had in combination with Mathesar -- do you have any advice?
