Problem after install

I keep getting "call to member function on null" when trying to use any of the functions in my controllers. It seems like the class isn't initialized, however the login page and the user validation are working correctly so I'm not sure what is going on. I'm extremely new to CI4 which could be the problem, but what is the best way to troubleshoot this issue?

What line of code is causing the issue? Can you show some of the effected code?

I just used the $auth->check() from the docs as a test

            {

	        return redirect()->route('login');
            }
        else{

it throws Call to a member function check() on null

The service is "authentication" not "authenticate". If that is wrong in the docs somewhere please send a Pull Request to update it.

I will send a pull request as that is on the user authentication doc, however it still isn't working for me after fixing the spelling.

same error, I thought maybe it was my min stability in composer.json but I double checked that this morning.
