Distribution

SteamOS 3.4.8

Package version

1.6.4

Frequency

Always

Bug description

Unable to use external drives or the SD card to save files. Folders on said storage are inaccessible or forbidden.
Attempted to set folder to 0777, didn't work
Added directory in flatseal

Steps to reproduce

Added directory from SDCard / external drive

Expected behavior

Not seeing the error message about an inaccessible or forbidden folder.

Additional information

Similar to #52 But it doesn't matter what permissions the folder has

Works ok here -

You've probably tried but you need to restart Warpinator after adding the directory to the permissions. Is it mounted under /media or somewhere else?

Happens the same to me and other people. I was using warpinator on Steam deck and the day after (probably after an update) it won't let me use any folder of SD card as my save location. It complains about privileges. I have used flatseal to apply even more wide open privileges and I have restarted the software and rebooted the system several times. None of it works. There are no issues with privileges. This problem is a bug.

Needless to say that my SD is writting/reading correctly and I had no issues installing/playing games from steam or using it with different software.

Are they also using a Steam deck?

One of them is using a steam deck. Another one is the newest comment to warpinator app in the discover app of SteamOS. Not sure if those comments are shared among different OS.

When it shows "Invalid save location' is it showing the full path to the drive or just the name?

I think one of us might have a Steam deck.. I'll see what I can do.

As a workaround, you can try to install the previous version if you'd like (this requires root):

flatpak update --commit=96707a4181d65bdd7a1664fe7e6d7c36203ea335d5dc2a6559baa83547d1d63f org.x.Warpinator

Thanks! I wasn't sure about how to downgrade it. This actually worked for me and the problem is gone!

Cool - are you able to comment in that Discover app you mentioned and link to this issue, so at least other folks can see how to downgrade till I figure out what's happening?

Thanks

This downgrade worked for me. Also using a steam deck!

I attempted a restart of the warpinator but it persisted. I'll have to provide an update when I can try the downgrade

So if you use the default downloads directory it will work.

It gives this error specifically when trying to set the directory to my SC Card.

Giving every permission possible in Flat Seal does nothing.

I published a fix yesterday, it should be available now, it will be the same 1.6.4 version, but a different commit, there will be a new version bump in the next few days.

Note: Flatpak complications detailed in the README (https://github.com/linuxmint/warpinator#flatpak-users) still apply, but /run save locations should work now.

Hello, I have updated to the latest version, and the error is still present. I'm unable to create a download folder on microSD card.

Can check a couple of things please:

  • Make sure you've allowed the location (/run/media/whatever) in Flatseal 'Other files'
  • Start warpinator and re-select that location in preferences

Sorry for my bad eng
It worked like this for me on SD

1 run warpinator
2 go to preferences
3 go to select directory
4 in the window select the sdcard directory
5 highlight and copy the example directory /run/media/mmcblk0p1/foldername
6 download flatseal from discovery
7 run flatseal
8 search warpinator app
9 scroll to other
10 add and paste /run/media/mmcblk0p1/foldername
11 close flatseal
12 restart warpinator
Done

I am getting the same error with the standard install on Mint 21.3
Tried terminal install, flatpak (1.6.4) and system install (1.8.3) from software manager
All have same resulting error
Can't run it to change any settings as the error comes up before anything else shown

But aren't you able to open the settings from the hamburger menu although the error is shown?

You were dead right - didn't see that (error message panic!!)
Unfortunately, now my IP address on desktop and phone are not in the same range (one is 192.168 and the other 192.169)
I am 92 and not all that cool on changing IP addresses
ps - could it be because the desktop is plugged into network not wifi?

Could be - sorry, I don't know that much about all that network, IP, subnet stuff. So I have just asked ChatGPT...

  • Check Router Settings:
Log in to your router's settings (usually accessible via a web browser) and look for DHCP settings. Ensure that both wired and wireless connections are configured to use the same IP address range.

  • Static IP Assignment:
You can manually set static IP addresses for your devices within the same range. This is done in the device settings. Keep in mind that manually assigning IP addresses requires some understanding of networking.

  • Reboot Devices:
Sometimes, simply restarting your devices can help them obtain new IP addresses from the router.

Maybe @mtwebster could help?

You are amazing, this is the only thing that worked for me.
