How can I use normal jquery like?

{% block javascripts %}
    <script src="{{ asset('assets/app.js') }}"></script>
    <script>
        alert($('#test').val());
    </script>
{% endblock %}

Now I got:

Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined
    at window.addEventListener
