Who you are

we are a team at the University of Leeds within UK's Centre for Observation and Modelling of Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tectonics (COMET) - we focus particularly on satellite interferometric (InSAR) measurements of terrain deformation - we process large amounts of InSAR data and publish in open access, see our https://comet.nerc.ac.uk/COMET-LiCS-portal . Except for the open data, we also develop several open-source research processing packages that are re-introduced within this event.

About the event

COMET InSAR Workshop is an international scientific workshop where top (UK) experts share their knowledge about InSAR technology (satellite-borne Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry) and its application to measure and model surface deformation due to geophysical processes such as earthquakes and volcanic activity. Since 2022 this annual event is arranged in hybrid form.

This year, the 3 days workshop will happen on 19-21 November 2024.

Any money changing hands?

Only in-person participation is paid (£60) - this covers basics such as coffee breaks, space etc.

How you will support Binder

We add your logo where we can, that is to our flyer shared through our LiCS Portal website, X/Twitter etc. We will provide the logo also to some other relevant material, e.g. the logo will be visible in recorded webinars etc. We will also verbally acknowledge mybinder.org during the practical sessions.

Extra information

The practicals are using following repositories in each session:

session 1: 20th Nov 2024, 10:00-12:00 UTC: https://github.com/comet-licsar/licsbas
session 2: 20th Nov 2024, 14:00-15:00 UTC: https://github.com/andwatson/coseismic_practical
session 3: 20th Nov 2024, 16:00-17:00 UTC: https://github.com/andwatson/interseismic_practical
session 4: 21st Nov 2024, 11:00-12:00 UTC: https://github.com/andwatson/volcano_practical
session 5: 21st Nov 2024, 11:30-12:30 UTC: https://github.com/matthew-gaddes/insar_workshop

Many thanks in advance - we used your services in previous two workshop events and it was successful - since the last year we use local jupyterhub for in-person participants (and the lecturers) while mybinder.org is used for online participants (free of charge)
Regarding technical details, we previously tested and confirm that 2 GB RAM and 1 GB of disk space per user worked great for us.

Dear @espiritocz,

Thanks for using mybinder.org. We are glad to hear that last year workshop was a big success.

Since the end of April, 2023, mybinder.org is running with reduced capacity as announced in https://blog.jupyter.org/mybinder-org-reducing-capacity-c93ccfc6413f.

Thank you @rgaiacs.

Yes, I am aware of the situation that endangered stability during our last year workshop. As I gave some feedback before, we were fortunate and not a single participant informed about non-availability of the machine.

We prepared our own hub for in-person participants but it will be great if the online participants can also access the tutorials at that time. If this helps, I can share the information to online participants so they can be better aware of the issues that unfortunately remain with mybinder.org in 2024.

Are you able to support us this year by bumping the quota to 300 (or should it be lower value, towards first-come-first-serve basis?)

Our total capacity is around 100 at the moment due #3088. You can send the online participants to mybinder.org but some will not be able to connect when we reach our capacity.

sorry, may I ask you to bump the quotas anyway to allow (near) maximum capacity you can offer? I don't know your stats but perhaps the morning session UTC times are not peaking in your user traffic?
