Changes in workflow component after writing the script?

The documentation of workflow scenarios is not clear and does not appear to correspond to component wording. I'll explain.
The chapter "Create the State(s) of the Workflow" refers to a "manage" link and the "States" column, while the columns are:

• Status
• Name
• Default
• Stages
• Transitions
• ID
  But no state column nor manage link.
  Assuming that States is actually Stage, I click and I find a default entry that I can edit. But I don't understand the sentence "Click the Default State for Published", isn't it "Click the Default State for to edit"?

Then, in step 6, there is a reference to a condition that I do not find. And if I choose the Unpublished state of the internship and change the Default to Yes, I can't register it: "Save failed with the following error: Item must be published to set default internship."

I am happy to help improve the documentation but I do not understand (yet) how the component works. Thank you in advance for clarifications
