<p>WomeninTech is a forum that aims at promoting STEM as a key career choice for women. This forum enables the technology
and HR leaders from the industry, NGOs, top rated academicians and independent bodies connect and work together
to build awareness and encourage women to pursue careers in STEM.</p>
<p>
<b>
<u>Purpose and Ambition:</u>
</b>
</p>
<ul>
<li>To promote STEM as a key career choice for women by bringing industry leaders, NGOs, academicians, technology leaders
together to create and execute a plan industry-wide which promotes, encourage women to pursue careers in STEM and
widen the talent base thereby eliminating the causes due which women in India drops out from career in STEM</li>
<li>To impact
<b>
<u>100,000</u>
</b> females in 2018</li>
</ul>
<p>WomenInTechnology (WiT), an exclusive industry forum facilitated by RBS India, was launched on 27th March, 2018 and
presented its charter in the presence of over 200 senior industry leaders, women professionals, and representatives
from top corporates, NGO’s, academia and the government.</p>
<p>With a vision to significantly increase the number of women taking up careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics), the charter presented three key areas for immediate impact:</p>
<ol>
<li>
<b>Engage -</b> To work towards creating awareness among young women about career opportunities in STEM (Entry level
schools, colleges)</li>
<li>
<b>Enable -</b> Provide scholarships for economically weaker section of people (Junior and middle management level)</li>
<li>
<b>Empower -</b> Help increase the employability of women in STEM professions (Leadership level)</li>
</ol><p></p><p></p>

<b>Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)</b>
</p>
<p>It is 2018. Technology leads us through our everyday lives. Though it’s amazing still to wonder how this enabler
still remains a frontier that hasn’t leveraged the complete potential of women as part of this work force. Reasons
could be multi-fold, the advancements in technology, constant displacements to manage cost efficiencies, the need
for adjustments to offshore timings or in some cases, even basic lack of technical education not being able to cope
with the rapid change of end user application. All of which are affecting last mile hiring. For those already a
part of the tech workforce, a lack of next level women role models in tech, gender-based pay gap, or even a persistent
gender bias are all contributors to the abyss that at-least 90% of women in the workforce have all alluded to.</p>
<p>
<b>
<u>Some facts highlight these issues:</u>
</b>
</p>
<ul>
<li>Women make up 40 % of the world’s workforce, according to the World Bank. Yet, the technology field is notoriously
male-dominated at all levels – Considerably worse than in non-technology industries – As reported by Payscale</li>
<li>Only 21% of executives in tech are women – This despite evidence that more women lead to greater innovation and
enhanced profitability</li>
<li>The two biggest barriers women say they face in the technology workplace are lack of mentors (48%) and lack of female
role models (42%)</li>
<li>About 74% of young girls express interest in STEM fields and computer science</li>
</ul>

<li>Only 7% women reach the C-Suite</li>
<li>There are three issues surrounding women in STEM – Entry of women in science; retention, respect and recognition
of women in STEM; and obstacles faced by women in STEM</li>
</ul>

<p>India is increasingly gaining its rightful share as the global talent hub for the IT industry. The number of colleges
and engineering universities as much as the specialised short courses that provide curated ‘role intensive’ training
have all, enabled the creation of more and more need centric in-house innovation in the sector. Add to this the
rapid adaption of technology across all other services and consumer facing sectors. The ‘APPification model’ of
the retail and consumer facing industries, social media proliferation as well as technological interventions in
the most unheard of sectors including the developmental sector; have all contributed to a sudden increase in diversified
roles in technology.</p>

<p>
<i>How can the industry come together to ensure more efficacies through workplace re-orientation that make this a career
stream of choice?</i>
</p>

<p>Mentoring where needed, providing workplace conveniences that helps a steady work life balance, as well as constant
upskilling that draws a definitive career path leading to the top is the need of the hour.</p>
