I tried installing the 'snap' package but Ubuntu Software Centre said it didn't know what to do with it, so I downloaded and installed the AppImage instead.

I logged into my Nintendo account, but after I log in and click my account the screen stays frozen on logging in and doesn't proceed from there.

Unrelated, but the cookie method returns This personal certificate can't be installed because you do not own the corresponding private key which was created when the certificate was requested. in FireFox mobile, Chrome mobile works. I'm assuming this is out of your control though.

could you look at the log.log file? In windows it's in %appdata%/squidtracks/log.log. I'm not sure where it would be on linux. maybe ~/squidtracks?

Sure can!

For future reference for other Linux users, the config is stored in ~/.config/SquidTracks

The log is as follows, nothing useful:

[2018-07-07 18:17:11.585] [info] App starting...
[2018-07-07 18:17:11.892] [info] Checking for update
[2018-07-07 18:17:15.295] [info] Update for version 1.2.1 is not available (latest version: 1.2.1, downgrade is disallowed.

Issue still present in 1.2.2, AppImage package, on Ubuntu 16.04. The log is similar to above.

Incidentally, when the "Link to account" page appears, clicking Cancel outputs a fourth line to the log:
[error] Error Logging into Nintendo: StatusCodeError: 400 - {"error_description":"The request does not satisfy the schema","error":"invalid_request"}
