Some cells stay highlighted when copying and pasting a big block

I've noticed in a recent program that when I copy and paste a big block of cells that, some cells that I cut from remain highlighted and the cells that I paste to do not get highlighted. I think this might have something to do with copying lower case commands.

If I copy a block containing the eight g commands, this behavior reproduces consistently, including across quitting and restarting the app.
