Compatibility with Notepad (Windows) #100
Comments
But the main issue appears when you want to share your text files created with Left to other people who don't have the app |
This may be the reason? |
#61 seems related. |
I cannot test this issue reliably on Windows, as I only have access to Linux and OSX. |
The issue is that Windows and Notepad in this case use "\r\n" as end of line character and linux uses "\n" (also known as CR LF vs LF). There is really no way around it. The weird format of what displays Notepad just means that the software does not recognize the end of line character, so everything is inline. What could happen is Left to automatically convert end of line character based on the platform you are on when you save a file (and when you open). It is an opinionated change. |
Try creating an empty file as .txt and then open it in left. I've been using it for a while and I think i've never come across that problem. |
Tried to replicate this on a fresh Windows 10 install. |
If someone else can confirm this, I will close the issue. |
I can confirm this issue does not happen on my machine. Windows 10 20H2 |
It seems that Left uses another type of line break than Notepad. It would be great if you can make Left compatible with the files created by the default text app of Windows
