We've got a couple of scripts in the site right now (home.js and community.js) that are doing pretty much the same thing. We should reduce this duplication and add a little logic to determine whether to template out the home-page banner or community-events list.

There are some more details to the templating of that banner as well. @apriofrost can add to this discussion.
