Hey, so after using the laptop for a couple of weeks now, If I put it to sleep, or let it go to sleep, it will restart on it's own, this happened many times,
another thing i'm getting about 3.5 avg battery life, I guess when I was running linux I had about the same, maybe a bit more like 4 hours (gpu was disabled) and it's all on medium brightness

Just wanted to chime in and say this has been a frequent issue on my laptop since I updated to the Jan update / Catalina. Maybe happening one out of every three sleeps.

(I was on Mojave/older release before--so sleep just didn't work--so I cannot say if this is a new issue with January or not.)

Here's the error I get in all my Kernal_TIMESTAMP_MACHINENAME.panic DiagnosticReports:

I'm also seeing this issue:
Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while calling power state change callbacks. Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHostFamily

gnodipac886 is so close to getting a stable configuration.

@Chatbox1024

I think I've fixed the "Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while calling power state change callbacks. Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHostFamily" issue on my MBXP.

I was previously getting a crash restart out of every 3 or 4 sleeps (i.e. it would sleep fine two to three times, then on the next sleep, it would crash restart).

Right now, I'm able to get it to sleep 15 times in a row without crashing. Going to test this out further more in the next few days. I'll post a fix if it is stable.

@Chatbox1024
Copy link

So, right now, this is more of a 'workaround' instead of a fix:
I removed the HS05 entry from SSDT-UIAC.aml to get a more stable and consistent sleep behaviour.

HS05 is used for the built-in Bluetooth module, so removing its entry from the SSDT will essentially disable Bluetooth as well.

I have the exact same problem as you, sometimes I noticed my bluetooth would be disabled and the only way to have it work was to restart the machine, could it be that when my bluetooth was not working is the same time I would get the sleep issue (crash restart)?
anyway I can live without bluetooth for now if it fixes sleep, what should I do here in that image?

and hey since you are another MBXP user, what kind of battery life are you getting, I'm getting around 3.5 to 4 hours max, and this was the case when I had UBUNTU installed as well, (GPU Disabled, and Brightness about half). Never tested it on windows, but yeah about 3.5 to 4 hours max! :(

@Chatbox1024
Copy link

You should start with the file from here:
https://github.com/gnodipac886/MatebookXPro-hackintosh/blob/master/CLOVER/ACPI/patched/SSDT-UIAC.aml

Then just remove the HS05 entry.

Having said that, I only see improved 'sleep' success rate...but the issue / crashing isn't fully eliminated / fixed yet. :-(

Also only getting about 3.5-4 hrs..

Chatbox1024 commented Mar 17, 2020

Regarding battery life in relation to screen brightness...I'm able to modify the SSDT-PNLF.aml from https://bitbucket.org/RehabMan/applebacklightfixup/downloads/ such that the brightness levels are smoother, and can get dimmer (just like you would in Windows).

Using that SSDT-PNLF.aml, I modified two lines:

  1. Modify Line 40 from "Name (_UID, Zero)" to "Name (_UID, 0x0A)"
  2. Modify Line 127 from "Local2 = 0x0710" to "Local2 = 0xFFFF"

Save the updated SSDT-PNLF.aml to the EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched directory.

Reboot.

(You don't need to use the AppleBacklightFixup kext)

You will now be able have a wider range of brightness levels (especially on the dimmer side) using the F1 F2 keys.

This should improve the battery life.

Another note:
For me, I'm using Catalina as the only OS on the MBXP. So, I've disabled the following from the BIOS (hoping that it will conserve battery life a bit more):

  1. Disabled fingerprint reader
  2. Disabled Wifi
  3. Disabled Bluetooth (the current v1.0.2 IntelBluetoothFirmware.kext is unstable when the system goes to sleep. Sometimes it will sleep fine, but other times, it will crash the system)

How did you edit the aml file? I searched around for a bit and haven't found a way to do what you mentioned.

How did you edit the aml file? I searched around for a bit and haven't found a way to do what you mentioned.

With all the resources out there, and you weren't able to find what's needed? You need to up your google-fu.

https://www.google.com/search?q=edit+aml

@jonescamilla

What exactly are the other entries in the file you linked to and what do they do? Why is it that the one already in our EFI is missing all of them?

And once the HS05 is removed from the file you provided do we just replace it with the one already in our EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched ?

@Chatbox1024
Copy link

Not sure which linked file you're asking about...but here's the summary:

  1. SSDT-UIAC.aml is to deal with USB ports.
  2. SSDT-PNFL.aml is to deal with display brightness up and down (and by how much for each increment/decrement).

Go and read from their respective repo. Research.

Good point I'm referring to the SSDT-UIAC.aml

The window on the left is the UIAC file in my CLOVER. The one on the right is the one you linked to where you directed to remove the HS05. I wanted to know about the differences between them and why they are there? Is the one provided just missing the information on the right? I also wanted to know if we just replace the one we downloaded with the one in CLOVER after we remove the HS05 (which I did in the right window)

Man, you're in this repo discussing...and you're not using the files from this repo. Why?

You're asking for a lot of hand-holding and spoon-feeding.

Almost every hackintosh goes through this configuration... go, search. Abundance of guides are out there.

I'm not sure... It's why I'm here. I'm trying to learn and gather information I may have missed. The instructions were a little vague for me so I did what I could and figured I was done and just needed fine tuning. Apparently not. I just want some guidance in the direction I need to go so I don't brick the os. This stuff is new to me so I'd like to be sure before I mess with files that come off as important to me. My google-foo may not be up to par with others though that is not for a lack of trying. I've appreciated every bit of guidance and pointers I've received so far and really only want to contribute to others less experienced than I in the long run.

@Chatbox1024 Sorry, would PM you if that was possible in Github.

Was going to ask if you are having issues with your fan speeding up really high whenever you watch video/YouTube. Basically, I get a situation every time I watch a full-screen video that the fan speeds up as the laptop heats up / kernal_task process increases to prevent the system from overheating. Even if I close the video and close all applications, the fan never slows down. Only resolves on restart.

Wonder if it is related to the bug with bluetooth/sleep.

Watching Youtube is fine here...relatively light load on the CPU.

Here's the cpu readings while watching this 4K video, in 4K.

@Chatbox1024 does your CPU go down after you stop watching the video, or does it stay up?

It goes back down.

I was originally confused by your comment since I never experienced what you described. It's only until recently where I've been running the laptop a little more intensely (external monitor, approximately 4 applications with several chrome tabs) that I've noticed an issue with the kernel task occasionally locking up at 110+% with the fans at full speed and never coming back down. The only way to resolve the issue is also by a restart.

My idle temps not running anything is 45°C, running everything mentioned above results in a 50°C - 55°C but it seems that once the CPU hits 60°C the kernel task and the fans lock up and never come back down.
