Summary:

  • Ghostery downloads but does not install when downloaded from the Mac App Store in Safari.
  • Ghostery icon is in the user's Safari toolbar, but it doesn't appear in his extensions list.
  • Ghostery install does not have a green check saying "You are protected" in the middle. We are supposed to support macOS 12.6+.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Safari browser
  2. Go to Ghostery website or extension page
  3. Click link to download Ghostery from Mac App Store
  4. [Unusual behavior] Ghostery downloads to the macOS Downloads folder and does not install
  5. Opening Ghostery from the Downloads folder opens page with unhelpful images asking to open the app without specifying app name.

Expected behavior:

  • Clicking "Get" button in Mac App Store should install Ghostery extension in Safari

Actual behavior:

  • Ghostery downloads but does not install as a Safari extension
  • Opening downloaded Ghostery opens unhelpful page with images asking to open unspecified "app"

Environment:

  • macOS version: 12.6.7
  • Safari version: 16.5.2
