Battery charge/discharge seems to be working backwards

I am using the single entity method, where the value for battery power can be positive or negative.
My inverter which provides the value, gives a positive number when the battery is being charged and a negative number when being discharged.
the power flow shows a positive number as being a discharge to HOME, (increasing the value shown for HOME)
rather than coming from the solar system

is there a way to correct this ? or perhaps I am not understanding something

I use a single entity for my battery as well in the power flow plus card. If the direction is the wrong way round, there is a toggle on the battery setup in the card to 'invert state' - this could well do what you want.

Alternatively you can always create a template helper sensor to inverse the value you receive from your inverter, e.g.
