I finally managed to install this cool tool and could succesfully record a few gif. However, after a few minutes, my chrome has started to be totally buggy even with record-desktop terminated:

Sorry to hear that.

Did it affect other applications and desktop? I feel like it may be possible that some of child processes were not successfully terminated and caused the mess. Please try to inspect such possibility in case of recurrence via

$ ps -aux | grep "record-desktop\|byzanz-record\|mkdfifo\|slop\|xwd\|xwininfo"

OK if it happens again, I'll do that.

There were probably some processes that were not terminated because the CPU was very high but only Chrome was affected.

Probably it may also be related to displaying the gallery of images. As it is a highly CPU consuming, I've managed to free resources by killing a gallery on a minimize event.

Worth to check:

  • What process exactly consuming CPU via htop?
  • Is record-desktop minimized (shouldn't be visible in taskbar, only the icon in tray)?

Actually, I don't have any icon with Kubuntu 14.0, just an empty space in the taskbar.
