Prerequisites

  • I searched for any existing report about this performance issue to avoid opening a duplicate.
  • I have restarted the web browser to check if that resolved this performance issue.
  • I can reproduce this performance issue in a new, unmodified web browser profile with Dark Reader installed as the only extension.

Performance Issue Description

After being a user for years, Dark reader is becoming more unreliable and buggy.

Bug when incognito where everything lags goes dark and then returns

Bug on iOS when sites don't turn dark when it is on

Steps To Reproduce

Try incognito on Chrome with extension on
Try viewing iOS in dark mode and sites have to be refreshed in order for it to turn on.

Could you please provide more detailed steps to reproduce the issues on Chrome? Any sample URLs?

  • Try turning dark mode off (site setting) on reddit.com in safari and turn on dark extension. It crashes
  • GCP is also incredibly laggy with dark mode on
