tests and CI #16

We should really create a few basic tests to start with and then build and verify the tests for commits and PRs in a CI setup...

I started out with adding a "github action" that fails in a mysterious way - I've submitted a support issue to github about that.

I'm also about to setup travis for CI jobs in PR #21
