PROBLEM:
When watching YouTube content, users may want specific playlists, channels, videos, or categories to play at a different speed by default. For example, tutorials or podcasts may be better consumed at 1.5x speed, while music or entertainment might be preferred at the normal speed. Constantly adjusting playback speed for each video becomes tedious and disrupts the viewing experience.

SOLUTION:
Introduce a feature to set a default playback speed for specific playlists, channels, individual videos, or video categories. This could be configured via a user-friendly interface, allowing users to assign speeds like 1.5x, 2x, or even custom values for certain content.

ALTERNATIVES:

  1. Manual adjustment every time, which is inconvenient.
  2. A global speed setting (already available but doesn't solve the specific customization issue).

RELEVANCE / SCOPE:
This feature could benefit a significant percentage of users, particularly those who regularly consume varied types of content on YouTube. An estimated 50%-70% of users could potentially use this feature, especially learners, podcast listeners, and productivity-oriented viewers.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Minimal. Adding this feature would increase the complexity of settings but shouldn't interfere with existing functionality. Users not interested in this feature can ignore it.

CONTEXT:
This feature aligns with the increasing demand for personalized user experiences in video platforms. It would enhance YouTube's appeal for users who consume educational and long-form content.

Let's say this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4CfNUX9nlM&list=PLyfPcUoivAtZ2PMHd9pdKI6PeOCim7Xr7&index=44 I don't want to hear this playlist in fast-paced because the rhym will be broken.

SHORT Table (Summary)

Field Description
Problem Constantly adjusting playback speed per video is tedious.
Solution Allow specific speed settings for playlists, channels, etc.
Alternatives Browser plugins, manual adjustments, global setting.
Scope High relevance for productivity and educational content users.
Side effects Minimal; adds minor UI complexity.
Context Personalization aligns with user expectations in modern platforms.

Damn, those issues have been several years old with little or no progress. This open-source repo healthiness is on the bleeding edge.

I found out this repo has a financial donation portal here: http://www.improvedtube.com/donate I recommend using something with more open, like Patreon or even just GitHub Sponsor, that way, we as users know does the maintainer has proper cashflow intake or not from the sponsor.

So we can at least hire ourselves or a freelancer to work on the "most important" issue and prevent hanging GitHub issue.
