iPod 6 cant DNF on checkra1n

Using an iPod 6 on IOS 12 and connecting it to my Mac via USB_C cable. iPod can enter DFU mode fine when not using checkra1n or not connecting it to the laptop. I believe putting the device in recovery mode beforehand is the problem. When I follow checkra1ns onscreen instructions, my device either restarts or simply stays in recovery mode. Safe Mode makes no difference. Wishing the was an option to bypass the automatic putting device into recovery mode and instead being able manually do so or manually put into DFU.
