Although JSON files are not a threat, on the last websites I recovered from hacked to clean, I found Javascript obfuscated code on JSON files, maybe because the attacker just checked the two first letters of the extension (JS) and added the code anyway.
It's not a threat, but the JSON files will be unusable if the obfuscated JS code is there.
